ABOUT THE AUTHOR
James H. Austin, M.D., is Professor Emeritus of Neurology at
the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr.
Austin is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and had his
neurology training at Harvard and Columbia. He is the author
of Chase, Chance, and Creativity and the author or
co-author of more than 130 publications in the fields of
neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, and clinical
neurology.
He and his wife live on the side
of a small mountain in Idaho, a setting they share with
local moose and deer. They meditate with members of a local
Zen group, and are stimulated in their active "retirement"
by Red, a golden retriever, whom they acknowledge as an
exemplar of the basic orignial Buddha nature. Dr. Austin
also gives a series of lectures and teaches a course on Zen
and the Brain at the two major universities nearby.
