Professor of English and Design | Media Arts at the University of California at Los Angeles, N. Katherine Hayles is our most significant thinker about the intersection of literature and technology, from The Cosmic Web: Scientific Field Models and Literary Strategies in the Twentieth Century (1984), through her groundbreaking work Chaos Bound: Orderly Disorder in Contemporary Literature and Science (1990) and the edited collection Chaos and Disorder: Complex Dynamics in Literature and Science (1990), to How We Became Posthuman: Virtual Bodies in Cybernetics, Literature, and Informatics (1999) which won both the Rene Wellek Prize for the best book in literary theory and the Eaton Award for the best book on science fiction theory and criticism.
