As the global community confronts the COVID-19 pandemic, access to knowledge and research is more urgent than ever before. During these uncertain times, the MIT Press remains committed to its mission of disseminating scholarly ideas for the broadest possible audience.
In response to the increased need for digital content and distance learning, we are rapidly expanding access to e-resources at the Press. To support researchers and experts working to address the worldwide health crisis, we are providing a growing list of free articles on pandemics, epidemiology, and other relevant subjects. For at-home learners looking to build new knowledge, we are making a selection of recent titles freely available on PubPub, an open-source platform used for community publishing.
Our full staff is now working remotely and will continue to do so for as long as necessary. Despite this transition, all essential activities and operations are proceeding. Our printers are operating and our distribution warehouses are open and readers can order books directly from the MIT Press website. We continue to consider proposals for new books by qualified authors in a wide range of subject areas. If you would like to propose a book, please follow the instructions on this page.
For current authors, please note: we are unable to mail statements along with royalty checks; however, we are still processing payments and they will be mailed to you separately. At the MIT Press Reader, we are drawing on relevant backlist and inviting authors to provide their expertise and unique perspectives on matters related to the crisis. We are also offering a virtual author series each week called MIT Press Live!

MIT Press First Reads is a series of rapidly produced, digital-first titles offering expert insight to inform matters of urgent local and global consequence. The inaugural title in the series is Economics in the Age of COVID-19, the first major book about the potential economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In it, author Joshua Gans outlines the phases of the pandemic economy, from containment to reset to recovery and enhancement. Gans steps back from the short-term chaos to take a clear and systematic look at how economic choices are being made in response to COVID-19.

Rapid Reviews: COVID-19
Rapid Reviews: COVID-19 is an open-access overlay journal that seeks to accelerate peer review of COVID-19-related research and prevent the dissemination of false or misleading scientific news. The editorial team identifies papers related to the novel coronavirus and its impacts that have been posted to preprint servers and commissions cross-linked, rapid peer reviews of these manuscripts. The journal also offers publishing options to the authors of papers that are positively reviewed, providing a vital outlet for research communications produced in the wake of the pandemic.

The MIT Press Reader will continue to publish articles related to the crisis, providing insightful commentary for as long as necessary. Currently, these include everything from a sweeping history of pandemics—with a few words on our current crisis—by renowned scientist Vaclav Smil, to a powerful argument for employing smartphone location data to stop the spread of the virus.
Virtual Author Talk Series
MIT Press Live! is a weekly virtual author talk series aimed at building vibrant online communities. These online events will feature experts from around the world offering enlightening and timely takes on important topics. Events will take place Tuesdays at 12:30 pm Eastern time and are free and open to the public.
