Whitney Phillips wins the Nancy Baym Book Award

We are pleased to announce that Whitney Phillips recently won the 2016 Nancy Baym Book Award for This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Mapping the Relationship between Online Trolling and Mainstream Culture. Sponsored by the Association of Internet Researchers (AOIR), the award seeks to recognize the best work in the field of Internet Studies, relating to the social and cultural dimensions of networked media. The award included an invitation to present the work at the annual AOIR conference, which will be held this year in Berlin from October 5-8th.

The judges “found Whitney’s historical perspective on trolling useful and important when put in the contemporary context of Fox News and Gamergate… The committee found Phillips’ book to be the right balance between accessibility and scholarly depth – suitable for both academic and mainstream reading.”

This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things is now available from the MIT Press in paperback.

Congratulations Whitney!
