This book, written by one of the most important Soviet workers in the field, is probably the current major work on thermal conductivity in the Soviet Union. It treats all aspects of the subject and unifies the theoretical treatment of thermal conductivity, which so far has been scattered in the literature. This volume also brings to the reader's attention the results of a very large amount of recent Soviet work, particularly thermal conductivity studies at the extremes of pressure and temperature. The text discusses gases, liquids, gaseous mixtures, and solutions. It stresses the treatment of thermal conductivity of gases at very low and high pressures, including the critical region and transition to liquid state. A special chapter is devoted to plasma at temperatures up to 13,000°K and pressures form 10-3 to 103 at m. The existing theories for calculation of thermal conductivity of pure liquids and solutions are critically reviewed and recommendations are given on reliable design formulae.
