Beacons of scholarship
The work of the MIT Press starts close to home—from our offices in Kendall Square—and we pride ourselves on having an integral role in MIT's mission and the work of its faculty and staff. Through our books and journals, we amplify this work to the world.
MIT-affiliated authors publish field-defining work. Tom Cormen became the lead author of the field-defining work, Introduction to Algorithms (now in its 4th edition, with over 1 million copies in print), when he was a graduate student under MIT professors and coauthors Charles Leiserson and Ronald Rivest. Our authors cast spotlights on much-needed change in the world, as with Women and Leadership coauthored by alumna and 2022 MIT commencement speaker Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and they translate the latest research from academia into bite-sized accessible introductions in Essential Knowledge series titles like Biofabrication by Ritu Raman or The Future by Nick Montfort.

"The Press is a major enhancer of MIT's influence and reputation in scholarship and education. For MIT researchers it's a channel to commercial publishing that's fully consistent with the Institute's leadership position and academic standards. For the world, it's a window into MIT that exhibits our leadership and innovation.”
Hal Abelson, Class of 1922 Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at MIT and four-time author with the MIT Press
