Experienced publishing professional Catherine Woods will commission and develop new books with a focus on textbooks, trade titles, and research monographs
The MIT Press is pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Woods as executive editor for economics, finance, and business.
An experienced publishing professional, Woods has spent her entire career in educational publishing, serving in a variety of leadership, operational, and editorial positions. Until recently, she was vice president, content management, at Macmillan Learning, where she led the group responsible for digital transformation in project management and content standards. Woods previously served as publisher at Macmillan where she grew the social sciences list from $8 million to $65 million and established many influential and top-selling titles.
“Catherine is uniquely positioned to build our program in economics, finance, and business,” said Amy Brand, director and publisher, the MIT Press. “We are thrilled to welcome her to the MIT Press and know she will push the list in new and exciting directions.”
As executive editor at the MIT Press, Woods will advance the teaching, learning, and public understanding of essential topics in economics, finance, and business. In this role, Woods will commission approximately twenty-five projects each year with an emphasis on field-defining textbooks and monographs and high-impact trade books. She will project-manage approximately the same number of titles through the publication process annually.
“I have long been an admirer of the MIT Press’ innovative approach to publishing,” said Woods. “I look forward to working in this supportive and creative environment and dedicating myself to publishing great books that will positively impact people’s lives.”
Woods earned her B.A. at Fordham University, magna cum laude, and an M.A. in Publishing at New York University. After joining Macmillan Learning, she worked her way up the ranks, serving in editorial, operational, and leadership roles. Prior to that, she held editorial roles at CBS Publishing, Random House/McGraw-Hill, and HarperCollins.
