In celebration of a new initiative: the MIT Press Grant Program for Diverse Voices

Supporting work by authors who bring underrepresented perspectives across the arts, humanities, and sciences

The MIT Press is thrilled to introduce the Grant Program for Diverse Voices (GPDV). Expanding the Press’s existing Fund for Diverse Voices, established in 2018, the GPDV supports new work by authors who bring excluded and chronically underrepresented perspectives to the fields in which the Press publishes across the arts, humanities, and sciences.

We value lived experience and recognize that it is a vital form of knowledge. Alongside professional expertise, the lived experience of negotiating a white supremacist, ableist, and patriarchal society from a minoritized position requires sophistication and resourcefulness that can inform innovative research and scholarship. The Grant Program supports the research and writing of books by underrepresented authors who bring the valuable perspective of lived experience to their contribution to knowledge.

Recognizing that economic barriers are among those that may limit the ability of some authors to complete their books, the GPDV provides direct-to-author grant awards for research and writing.
