Media Origins
The aim of this series is to capture the history of “new media” from a sociocultural perspective, through humanistic, art historical, sociological, and anthropological lenses. The series will focus not on the technologies themselves, but on the larger sociocultural contexts in which they were developed, the economic frameworks that enabled them, and the practices and politics of digital labor. In order to transcend the “history is written by the winners” trend in new media scholarship, this series will focus on archival research and oral histories that capture the “untold stories” of technologies from primary sources.
